Agree what the sample is intended to answer
Before reviewing a sensory-friendly garment, identify the design questions: neckline contact, label placement, seam bulk, waistband feel, fabric texture or fit. Mark the sample’s style reference, revision and intended age range. A sample review is a product-development exercise, not a clinical assessment. It helps a brand decide which garment details to approve or revise, without treating one wearer’s preference as proof of comfort for everyone.
Keep children’s and adult fit reviews separate
Prepare distinct measurement charts and reference garments for the children’s and adult ranges. Record the intended fit and movement needs for each style, including the neck opening, sleeve shape, body length and waist. Do not simply enlarge a children’s pattern and assume the adult fit is resolved. During review, compare the sample with the correct specification and describe any fitting issue by garment location, rather than only writing that a size feels wrong.
Inspect the fabric at the points of contact
Compare the finished garment with the approved swatch or reference and record whether the surface is smooth, brushed, heavy, light, stretchy or firm relative to the brief. Check inside surfaces and folded edges as well as the outside appearance. A photograph alone cannot establish softness. If several materials are under consideration, identify each one clearly and review them against the same questions so feedback can guide a sourcing decision.
Review labels without confusing tagless with seamless
Turn the garment inside out and locate every label or printed information area. Check the neckline and any other contact location named in the brief. For a transfer or print, note its placement, surface and edge feel on the actual material. Tagless means a specified sewn-in label is omitted or replaced; it does not mean all seams are removed. Agree where product and care information will be carried instead of silently deleting it from the development specification.
Check seams, cuffs and waistbands individually
Follow shoulder, side, sleeve and crotch seams as relevant to the style. Record where the seam is located, how it is finished and whether the sample matches the agreed construction. Examine cuff openings, binding and elastic without assuming that a flatter appearance proves the intended feel. If the brief calls for reduced bulk, describe the location and requested change. Fully seamless construction is a separate requirement that needs a feasibility review.
Compare the sample before and after the agreed care routine
Record the care method used and compare the same points afterwards: garment measurements, surface appearance, label condition, seam behaviour and neckline or waistband recovery. Use a consistent measurement method and retain the observations with the sample version. This is a development comparison; it does not substitute for a specified laboratory test or support an unverified durability claim. Agree any additional evidence required before approving the bulk specification.
Turn wearer feedback into specific revisions
Use plain comments such as “move this label away from the side waist” or “review the thickness of this shoulder finish,” supported by an annotated garment photo. Separate preferences from measurable deviations from the specification. For children, collect feedback through the responsible adult and avoid including private medical information in the factory brief. Summarise the relevant garment preferences rather than forwarding identifying wearer records.
Approve a named version and record open issues
Use a simple outcome for each point: approved, revise, or unresolved. Keep the reference sample, measurement chart, selected material, label artwork, construction notes and approved revision together. Our factory develops both children’s and adult ranges; each style and colour requires at least 100 pieces with a mix of 4 sizes. Simple-style sampling generally takes 7–12 days and complex styles 15–20 days. Confirm any revision work and timing before treating the sample as ready for bulk production.
